Air Terjun Pak Lah holds a deep, quiet significance for the people of Penang. Named in honor of Malaysia’s 5th Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, these falls were once a pristine sanctuary for the Kampung Bukit community. For generations, it served as a vital recreational space where families gathered and children learned to swim. Today, this landmark remains a symbol of local identity, representing a rare pocket of nature tucked within the industrial landscape of Bayan Lepas.
The waterfall is currently at a breaking point due to the rapid industrialization of the surrounding Free Industrial Zone. Over the years, unregulated runoff and illegal dumping have severely compromised the water quality, turning a clear catchment area into a site struggling with water pollution. Irresponsible littering has already turned this location into a mess that needs urgent clearing.
